Woman identified in death investigation

Police are investigating the death of a 60-year-old woman in southeast Washington as a homicide, authorities said Tuesday.

Officers and firefighters responded to a call reporting an unconscious woman around 1 a.m. at a home in the 8800 block of Ninth Street Southeast, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death and manner of death have not been released. Police said the woman was not related to the person who called police.

Homicide detectives are investigating the death as a homicide.

Police did not release the woman’s name, but WUSA-TV reported that she was identified as 60-year-old Joseita Johnson.

WUSA-TV said the woman lived alone. A neighbor told the TV station that Johnson had moved from the house to a nursing home about a year ago.

Neighbors said she lived in the home for years.

WTOP-TV said homicide detectives will interview neighbors and investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
